This scholarship was set up in memory of Donald Withrington, who was a Reader in History at the University of Aberdeen.
Criteria
- Postgraduate students or prospective postgraduate students in any aspect of post-Reformation Scottish history are eligible to apply.
- Applicants must be able to demonstrate outstanding academic potential and to have achieved at least an upper second class honours degree.
- The scholarship is valued at £1,000 per semester (i.e. £3,000 per annum), which will contribute towards the cost of tuition fees and maintenance.
- The award is tenable for a maximum of three years.
- The Head of History in the School of Divinity, History and Philosophy and Dr Marjory Harper shall be responsible for the advertising of the award and the short-listing of the candidates.
Conditions
- The successful candidate will be required to write an annual report at the end of each academic year, which is to be submitted to the Development Officer, who will forward it to the donor.
- The successful candidate is also expected to attend the annual Scholars’ Reception, which provides the donor and scholar with the opportunity to meet each other.
- Should the successful candidate decide to withdraw from their course or their studies are terminated, the University of Aberdeen reserves the right to stop their funding at short notice.
