Descrierea universitatii (pe baza site-ului oficial)

Nebraska Wesleyan University is a small, private, four-year liberal arts college in University Place, a historic neighborhood in northeast Lincoln, Nebraska. Founded by Methodists in 1887, NWU emphasizes small classes, personal growth and global citizenship.
Nebraska Wesleyan University is an academic community dedicated to intellectual and personal growth within the context of a liberal arts education and in an environment of Christian concern.
Nebraska Wesleyan was founded by Nebraska Methodists and actively maintains its relation to The United Methodist Church. The University reflects the Judeo Christian tradition in its efforts to integrate questions about meaning and value with the pursuit of learning and understanding. The University is committed to excellence of academic endeavor and to learning as a lifelong process. The curricula and programs are designed to assist students in gaining and expanding knowledge and skills, in developing their competence in rational thought and communication, in broadening their perspectives on humanity and culture, and in enhancing their spiritual, physical, emotional, and aesthetic resources. Nebraska Wesleyan intends that its students develop a sense of individual worth and become useful and serving members of the human community.

History

Since 1887, Nebraska Wesleyan University has both grown and remained steadfast to a liberal arts education in a Christian environment. Nebraska Wesleyan University is considered one of the strongest institutions of its kind in the Midwest, and has been continuously accredited since 1914.
Nebraska Wesleyan University’s initial enrollment of 96 students has grown to 1,500 full-time undergraduates and nearly 300 graduate and nontraditional students. An original staff of eight has increased to over 300 faculty, staff and administrators.
Old Main, the University’s flagship building throughout its history, is also the central building of Lincoln’s University Place neighborhood. Prior to Lincoln’s growth, University Place was a separate small town; today, University Place is a historic residential area with quaint shops and cozy neighborhoods in northeast Lincoln.
Nebraska Wesleyan’s emblems have included: the Sunflower (1894-1907), the Coyote (1907-1933), the Plainsman (1933-2000) and the Prairie Wolf (since 2000). The University’s brown and gold colors reflect the original University emblem.

Nebraska Wesleyan provides honors-quality education to every student, as evidenced by national recognition for our academic programs, exceptional opportunities for student involvement and the remarkable success of our graduates.
While Nebraska Wesleyan offers a broad-based curriculum—49 majors, 18 departments, 14 preprofessional programs and two Master's-level programs—the University also nurtures its liberal arts tradition. Wesleyan boasts a 14:1 student-to-faculty ratio as well as unique learning opportunities, such as the Liberal Arts Seminar for first year students and service learning experiences both in and out of the classroom.
