The University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Craiova, by its faculties and study specializations in License, Master and PhD, represents an academic institution where the educational component is predominant, but where the scientific research must also gain dimensions and substance, there existing the strong certainty of balance between the two components on an average term.
At the same time, the University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Craiova must become the pivot of medical assistance, both as far as the methodology is concerned and also regarding specialized practice activities, within the historical region of Oltenia.
Active informing, acknowledgement and increase of active involvement of the academic staff, of students and of the administrative staff within the University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Craiova, by implementing the national strategies of developing academic education and by reaching the objectives of Bologna Declaration, adopted in 1999, including Romania, and of high-level educational European declarations (Prague – 2001, Berlin – 2003, Bergen – 2005, Lisboa). One of the important activities proposed for the future by UMF, Craiova, consists in developing, diversifying and supporting all post-academic training forms (Residentship, Master, PhD, Perfecting Studies, Post-Academic Courses for Updating Knowledge, Courses for Obtaining Competences, etc.), including e-learning, as well as assuring conditions for Resident training in many of the acknowledged specialties.
The University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Craiova is structured in four faculties:
Faculty of Medicine
Faculty of Dentistry
Faculty of Pharmacy
Faculty of Midwives and Nursing
The Faculty of Medicine has got the Medicine specialization (6 years) and the last Physiotherapy class (5 years). The Faculty of Dentistry has got the Dentistry specialization (6 years). The Faculty of Pharmacy has got the Pharmacy specialization (5 years). The Faculty of Midwives and Nursing has got four specializations: Midwives (4 years), General Nursing (4 years), Dental Technology (3 years) and Balneal Physiotherapy and Recovery (3 years), respectively a filial in Drobeta Turnu Severin for the General Nursing specialization.
The Master studies program in process is “The Management of Healthcare Institutions” on a period of 4 semesters.
Starting with October 1st 2009 there will rise up another 4 Master programs, thus:
-Medical Biostatistics
- Prothetic Restorations with an Implanter Support
- Developing Community Nursing Services
- Pharmacology and Toxicology
Also, a Master program entitled The Management of Pregnant Woman and New-born Child is in process of accrediting, as well as a Master addressing mainly to the graduates from the Faculty of Balneal Physiotherapy and Recovery.
